Cal - if I'm not mistaken, there is a derailment report in the ICC files concerning the 111 on a northbound passenger train, but I'm not sure of the date.

Does anyone know if any of the unstreamlined K's made down the Punkin Vine to Winston-Salem, if so what numbers? Cal Reynolds.

I don't know what started this thread, but I can add that the 112 and 113 were the regular engines on Durham Line passenger Trains 35 and 36 in the summers of '52, '53 and '54 with the 107 as the relief engine.

Harry - the 103 was a west ender, working out of Portsmouth.

The 104 was the regular Bristol layover engine on the Pulaski (later Radford) locals for most of the postwar years. For a long time its counterpart on the other end was the 105. The 105 was replaced by the 106 about 1956 or so. The 114 and 115 put in an appearance there occasionally in late years. Also saw from ancient days the 100 and 111 at Bristol.

I saw the 103 at Portsmouth in 1956; saw the 107 at Grundy on the Buchanan Branch local. Saw the 108, 110, 112 and 113 around Roanoke. I never did see the 101, 102 or 109. The 101 and 102 were Portsmouth engines, out of town when I was there. The 109 was an east ender, photographed in Thieme's book.

Well after 1953, the unstreamlined K's were regulary assigned to the

local freights on the Norfolk and Radford Divisions. Eng 103 was

a regular on the Radford-Bristol locals, Nos. 71 and 72. Eng 110

usually caught a Lamberts Point - Petersburg turnback. Never

saw it, but was told the non-streamliners occasionally pitched in on

psgr assignments.
