Jeff:  As I recall, the 2040 went past the stop in Williamsburg, OH when
the rails were being repaired and replaced west of the station ( I
think) the locomotive and 20-30 cars of coal went on the ground- ties
actually- because of the lack of rails.  I believe the cause was the
lack of proper marking by the rail gang of their MoW limits and no one
told the engineer to watch for MoW track work signals.

I could find no report on such an accident in I.C.C. Historical Railroad
Investigation Reports (1911-1966)

ilroads>  on the US Dept. of Transportation Web site.  This source does
contain a number of other N & W accident reports during those years, but
not the one you inquired about.
