Mallet Engines on the Saltville Branch - When?

They didn't! The rusty rails and rotten ties are still there. The line is now owned by the town of Saltville, so who knows when it will ever be taken out. There is no real hope of the line ever being used again. The U.S. Gypsum company has declared the area near their property to be too unstable to support rail traffic. The tracks over their property have been removed for the mostpart (about a quarter mile), and since they were there first and granted the V&T RR use of the property, there's no legal claim for damages to the right of way. The rest of the line is there except for some Mathieson company tracks taken out a couple years back.

Basically, the Saltville Branch is abandoned in place.
