IN CITY AND COALFIELD
Dispatcher Not Blamed
Considerable local interest was evidenced here in the Illinois Central wreck in which President Harahan was killed. Frank Clifford, a brother of M. M. Clifford, superintendent of streets and highways, of this city, is chief dispatcher of the division with headquarters at Carbondale, Ill., near where the wreck occurred. Local railroad men were pleased to know that Clifford is reported to have no share in the blame, which it appears attaches to the brakeman or the engineer on the train which crashed into the special car on which the president and other officials were riding.
[Maybe this is an occupational hazard for railway presidents. President Samuel Spencer of the Southern Railway was likewise killed in a rear-end collision on that railroad in 1906.]
