Dismal Swamp

There are not a lot of photos taken in the swamp to my knowledge. 

It is a pretty miserable place, snakes and other critters you really don’t want to get involved with.

Retired Engineer and Archives Volunteer Grandle Meador told me about that and why the crews hated getting stopped on the trackage. I don’t remember the specifics, but I will ask him next week. He does not have emails.

Also remember, when that line was constructed, engineer William Malone devised the scheme of putting down the cypress logs to build a corduroy roadbed to keep the roadbed above water. The system is still working today, 170 years plus.
