Hi Dave, I commented on wire sizes in my reply to Mike. What I didn’t add there is that I would have been content with .015” or .0125” throughout. 

As far as the bends go, my mandrels were literally things close at hand

A file for the carbody end grab


A pencil for the side grabs


And the jewelers pliers and a tweezer handle to locate the bends that go into the car body. 


Jim Cochran, Ken asked me about an article back in 2020. I put it on my todo list back then. It’s still on that list. However, I did at least consolidate my notes into one document. I’ll forward that to you for feedback. It’s not in article form, but the meat is there.
