If you selling only to the society members your data would hold true. If you selling to the mass market, 70’s is where it’s at nationally. I am just going by what a national mag poled.

Stephen,
Nor discounting your information on modelers in general, Rick Musser's poll from last year as well as my personal feedback this year, indicates that N&WHS modelers still mostly favor transition era and some even earlier.  Not to say that this will not be changing over the coming years, but for now, the sweet spot for our group seems to be late steam/early diesel.
I would be very happy to hear more feedback on this as we only ever get responses from a very small percentage of the membership, so LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

If the society is going to sell a model that will get the most sales, then they should look to the Model Railroader survey recently taken that most modeling is in the 70’s era. The transition era is not longer the most modeled era. I myself have dumped the steam era as there is very little plastic steam available and expensive worn out brass models and replacement parts are non existant. I now model late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. There is so much-much more offered/available. I would NOT buy any boxcars, but would buy multible hoppers if they fit my era. If the modeling committee wants to do a project then correct the lettering diagham on the BLI H2a hoppers which I am told is incorrect.
Just my 2 cents.

There may be more models out there than we realize for that time frame. Just recently I saw advertisements for N&W/NS G72 pipe gondolas from Bridge Line Design, N&W G-12 and CS-4 gondolas from Plate C Model Prototypes, and N&W F20 flat cars with and without Mack cabs as a load from Scale 3d Productions. While not N&W there'a also a new model for the Southern radio control cars from that timeframe.

I suspect as times goes on the 60s, 70s, and 80s will be a popular time to model. Personally I shoot for the 40s and 50s but also like stuff from the late 90s.

I don't know who called Ed a show off.  But (don't panic guys; I'm still doing Virginian in 1956)he has supported what I and some others have been saying; for the Society to stay afloat and even get larger, and to keep up with our mission, we need to do more for the modelers doing N&W post 1964 and NS.  Love A's and Y's and J's but we need to be more mindful of our future.
