Rivarossi Smokebox Post

I'm trying to repair the top handrail over the top of the smokebox on a 
HO Rivarossi 2174 2-8-8-2. The post (or stanchion) at one end is 
missing.

Any suggestions where I can get a replacement?

Any suggestions for the best plastic adhesive to use to re-apply the 
post?
(The handrail seems to be made of spring wire and it takes some force to 
bend and hold it to the curvature of the smokebox)
