These three sleepers were delivered in late 1948 and alternated with an identical PRR car on the following lines: Buchanan County on Roanoke to New York; Sussex Conty on Norfolk to New York; McDowell County on Williamson to New York. After the S1's were delivered in late 1949/early 1950, the time came when N&W pooled all their 6/10 cars. With cutbacks, eventually the three "County" cars were surplus, so N&W leased them to IC, who repainted them. When the S1's were sold to Pennsy in 1964, they were needed at home again, so they came pack from the IC lease. Eventually N&W repainted them either Tuscan red or Pevler blue, and some were still in service on Amtrak day.

Marty, I have very thin knowledge of N&W passenger equipment, but I need to start paying attention.
When were these sleepers used? And, if you know, which trains were they used on?

The HO scale Walthers N&W S2 County 10-6 Sleepers, Pullman plan4140, have been released as part of their PRR General series. The cars include decals for all 3 car names.  They haveNorfolk And Western on the letterboard and PRR stylestriping.  They are painted the same shade of brownish tuscanas their Pennsylvania passenger cars.  I believe this iscorrect for the cars' as delivered appearance.  Later theykept the PRR style striping but receive a truer N&W tuscanred.  Walthers has been producing very limited quantities oftheir passenger trains in recent years, so if interested youprobably shouldn't delay in picking one up.
Also on a Walthers related note, as we have been getting a lotof questions about this in the hobby shop where I work, Walthersannounced they are going to publish their catalog every other year, and 2022 is the first year they skipped.  The next Waltherscatalog won't be published until late 2023.
