I forgot to mention, their recording of the 611 whistle is from the 611. They also have a setting for the 1218's whistle along with many others.

I have a SoundTraxx decoder in mine. I haven't tried the other brands' steam decoders.

The last time I had to get a replacement decoder, they made it so all their steam sounds are on one decoder, rather than picking the kind of engine you're working on as they used to. When they combined those, they also upgraded some of the sounds, like the steam coming from the cylinders as it starts up. The old one was just a constant hiss rather than on and off as the steam shifts from cylinder to cylinder.

Whatever kind you get, I recommend the current keeper with it, to avoid problems if you hit a dirty spot of track. It looks like a small decoder and hooks up to the DCC decoder. The passengers and management don't like it when the train stops dead in its track(s).

?Hi guys I was wondering if someone could answer two quick question fir me regarding the 611 in the 1950s. One did the N&W kept the chrome ring around the headlight clean and two what is the best sound decoder for the 611 in ho scale that has the right sounds fir het in the 1950s? I?m leaning hard towards TCS but I was wondering what some of you more Experienced and export modelers thought. Thank you and have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Jeff Mueller
