Corel Draw Clinic Follow Up

Thank you for presenting this. I found it to be very worthwhile. I have Corel Draw 2017 and have used it in a limited fashion. This presentation will help me immensely.
When I opened the file in dropbox, it only allowed me to play the first hour. Only after I downloaded it, did I watch the entire presentation. I deleted the file once I watched it. I’m hoping that is not a problem.

Subject: Corel Draw Clinic Follow Up
Thanks to everyone who attended this session this past Wednesday! Eric put on an interesting hands-on demonstration, which is always a bit risky. I am not personally on the cusp of creating my own decals, but it sure was nice to see the "how" in case I get to that point.
Here are a few follow up items for those that want to go a bit further down this rabbit hole:
* This session was recorded. You can find it temporarily hosted on Dropbox. I'll leave it up for a week until a better place to host it is found. Please don't download it. Set aside enough time - I believe this ran 2.5 hours.
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4beinnobcbzzde/CorelDrawDecals.mp4?dl=0> https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4beinnobcbzzde/CorelDrawDecals.mp4?dl=0
* Eric recommended an educational version of Corel for the best bang for the buck. A caution is in order here though. Some people buying te educational version have been denied unlock codes from Corel when they didn't make the request from an .edu or .org domain; others have had no problem in the same scenario. Here's one source for the educational version; there's more discussion of this on the recording.

Lastly, if anyone buys Corel, Eric has offered to direct a small, hands-class/coaching clinic session. His description is included below, for those that buy Corel and want a leg-up on getting started. If you get to that point, or have questions, can contact him directly at <mailto:eric.h.bott at outlook.com> eric.h.bott at outlook.com. If there is enough interest, we'll set up a Zoom!
...if ...4 or more folks will be buying and installing Corel, then we could do the 3rd seminar. Corel has a nasty learning curve, and I’d like to help folks climb it before they get frustrated and walk away.
All 3rd seminar attendees should come to the session with a “pre-approved” project to work on during the session. I’d like to know the specific model to be decaled and to get a photo and a brief description of objectives from each prospective attendee a week ahead of the seminar, so I can be ready with a constructive approach to each one. I may also be asking some of the participants to buy and install a specific Railfont product ahead of time, to facilitate a good outcome. We could serve 4 – 6 people in a shared session. We could also allow silent auditors, and offer additional working sessions if more than 6 folks want to work on a project with me in real-time.
The projects could range from doing a “simple” decal set for a typical steam loco with road name but no logo, to a single “mid-level” logo, to a typical freight car or piece of MOW equipment (cabooses are a great choice) maybe with a simple logo, per person. I think it would make a powerful impression on all to see a couple of projects start to take form.
If the participants want to complete their individual projects after the class winds up and mail their Corel files to me, I can aggregate them into a single sheet, get the sheet printed, then split the page and mail each person his/her own first decal set. (I’ll establish the 1/6 page size constraints in advance.) I’d probably ask ~$10 each to go through all that. That’s pretty expensive for a 1/6 page decal set, but it’s a cheap way of seeing what the finished project could look like and knowing that one is capable of applying these skills to good effect.

A friendly reminder about the Corel Draw clinic later tonight. See the details below. I’ll probably open the call about fifteen minutes before the “go” time.

Hi all.
On November 11th @ 8:30pm (Eastern), member Eric Bott will be doing a follow-up presentation on decal making, with this one focused on the tools and methods he uses within the Corel Draw software.
Details (Mark your calendars):
Corel Draw Tools and Techniques for Making Your Own Decal Artwork by Eric Bott
Wednesday, November 11, 8:30pm Eastern
Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82229810693?pwd=Z2I2OHpleTJBbzlnNnpHdmlKWFFJdz09
Passcode: 762825
Note: Enter the passcode above, if prompted.
This presentation will be technique-heavy and in the form of a live demonstration. Eric will show, live, all the steps he goes through to create a decal from a photo, including transforming bitmap images to vector. This will be a relatively long clinic (two-ish hours), and will be interactive.
Everyone who geeks out about building custom vector graphics and seeing how complex (to me) graphics software is used in the pursuit of that goal is welcome to attend. No pre-registration is required - admittance is first come, first served up to the limit of our Zoom account license (100 people).
Feel free to forward the invitation to other individuals who may have an interest.
Presented as a collaboration between the N&W Historical Society and the Buckeye Division of the NMRA (Division 6, MCR)
We *may* be recording this one.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Vic and Phil, I noticed when you dropped off, and am glad to hear it wasn’t content (or host) related. Overall, Eric and I were pleasantly surprised at the attendance (24). I didn’t know if we’d get one or one hundred!
The follow-up presentation (Corel Draw workflow and tool demonstration) has a tentative date - mark your calendars!
November 11th @ 8:30pm Eastern
Eric will be developing the content over the next couple weeks - more information and a more formal invitation to follow.

Matt and Eric,
I’ll second that. Thank you for the presentation. I also had to bow out after about 30 minutes due to work schedule, but would be interested in seeing the complete PowerPoint presentation if it becomes available. It was great information and I would be interested in follow-up meetings also.

Matt and Eric,
I would like to thank both of you for making this presentation available. Most regrettably, I was the host of another Zoom meeting in Japan from 8 PM Central, so I was only able to join for the first 30-minutes. However, what I did see was most impressive, and I would definitely be interested in a follow-up meeting.

Hi Don. Unfortunately, no. Eric has some copyrighted material in his presentation.
I hope you are able to make it. We spoke yesterday to discuss operational details and I got a sense of what he intends to cover. It’s interesting.

Making Your Own Decal Artwork by Eric Bott
Wednesday, October 21, 8:30pm Eastern
This week Eric Bott will present a clinic on the topic of producing custom decal artwork, via Zoom. He will discuss a set of methods he uses to create artwork for unusual or one-off applications, from simple lettering to complex striping. He will also cover cost and skills required, and will include short overviews of his software workflow to illustrate the process involved.
If interest warrants, Eric will present a follow-up clinic with a live, step-by-step demonstration of the tool he uses to create his artwork - Corel Draw.
If you are interested, join us! Wednesday, October 21st at 8:30 Eastern, 7:30pm Central, etc.
