When?

Black boxcars did not come about until the 1971/1972 time frame.   When the first diesels arrived on the N&W all boxcars were brown and stayed that way until the 1964 round of mergers that brought about some blue painted cars.

I am modeling fall of 1958.  I think I understand that new diesel engines were received in black paint before that date. I've ordered a couple of engines from the club that should come this year in original black paint. .Were boxcars re-painted black during or before the fall of 1958?  When were new boxcars, if any, received in black paint?  Thanks in advance.  I want to be as accurate as I can be with my rolling stock and I always get great answers from members.  Oh, what fun we have chasing rabbits down holes!
