One trick I had heard and used with older decals is to spray them with glosscote and let them dry completely before cutting them out and using them. That might be a way to salvage something older.

I’ve found that most older decals disintegrate after a few years.  I lost 3 packs of Champ “Bronze Gold” type that were in sealed plastic bags but were at that time about 6 years old.  Buyer beware.

Last time I checked, Microscale still made N&W steam decals.
