Athearn Genesis N&W GP9

[NW Modeling List]

In case someone is still looking to pick up one of these models, as of July 5, DLH Locomotives in Springfield, Ohio (937-629-0321) has a few (502, 508 with sound; 514, 520 without sound) at pretty good prices.  As a disclaimer, I have no financial interest in this, just trying to alert NWHS members that there may be some of these models still available for purchase.  I've only been in it for several years but I don't recall a particular model or topic creating this much discussion in this email chat group!!!

Athearn announced these locomotives in February 2017 not this year.  As soon as they did, I put in an advanced reservation with modeltrainstuff.com (M B Klein).  Unfortunately when Klein updated their website earlier this year they did away with advanced reservations.  Their only advice was to keep an eye on the Athearn website to see when they were available.  As soon as they showed as in stock I started looking for them on modeltrainstuff.com and other sites.  I even checked dealers on the west coast thinking they would get them first.  I ordered mine from Klein the night they showed up on the website.
If you get on Athearn's mailing list they will send you new announcements the beginning of each month (same with Atlas).  Also the mailing list for Toy Train Heaven sends a list of newly announced items for the major manufacturers.  Don't look for help from Walthers.  They have not carried Athearn since it was purchased by Horizon Hobby, which is another distributer.
