OK, In all fairness I didn't take that as a definite Society pre-order announcement but as a maybe, if so, sorta kinda statement. As such, with nothing official (like prices, numbers, etc) I felt/feel members not wanting to lose out on the models ought to line up a source ASAP. In this day of limited production models being produced he who waits will wind up with an old Life Like toy RS-11......IF they can find one on feebay!
I never meant to slight our great Society in any way or steal money from our mouths. I truly appreciate those Members in the MAT or whatever and those helping to dig up the needed plans, photos and other information needed to get a manufacturer going where we need.
Should the MAT or Commissary send an announcement with pertinent information for ordering soon I would order there. Otherwise, I will find in necessary to order from another source to assure I get my needed/wanted RS-11's.

The statement below is copied directly from Dean's email regarding the MAT.   My comment is that the society should be more proactive in soliciting preorders from the Commissary rather than waiting for the manufacturer to formally announce its release.  If the dealers can set a discount price in advance, I am sure the MAT can figure it out as well.  And more pre-orders should lower the society cost as well.

>From Dean-----------We have an item on order with Rapido (which we will announce when it is released for sale) that opened the door to inquire with us about the N&W ALCO RS-11. Pre-selling the RS-11 will highlight the number of N&W modelers within our society in addition to the modelers outside of our society. This will hopefully lead to another run with different paint schemes. Ordering the items from the Society supports the Society and its continuing operation and allows us to order more from the manufacturer and shows them that our members support N&W/VGN products. ---------------

Jim,
Has the Society made any announcement about an RS-11 offering through the Society? If so, I agree we should support that with a few extra dollars. Otherwise we all like saving money and seeking a better than retail price would be good for Members.

I realize that you are trying to save a few $$ by pre-ordering through a dealer, but that does not benefit the society in any way.  The NWHS (AFAIK) has to commit to Rapido for a significant number of units to get a good price so that the society can make money.  Buying the models may cost you additional money, but it raises money for OUR organization.  If NWHS purchases these units for resale and the members  go elsewhere, and they sit unsold, these projects may be seen as not worth the investment by the Board.
My indoor modeling is all N scale so most projects done by historical societies are not on my radar.
COHS advertised N scale box cars with Deco ends (diamond-dot). Intermountain cancelled the project after two years for lack of reservations.
Just my humble opinion.

On June28th, Ed Painter wrote in an email “I've found one dealer that has pre-order pricing of $250 (MSRP $335) for DCC/Sound models and $168.75 (MSRP $225) for DCC Ready models.  I'm pre ordering the 4 Pevler Blue numbers with DCC-Sound!”

Ed, or somebody, can you tell me the dealer that has this offer.  I am interested in pre-ordering an RS-11.  Thanks,
