The statement below is copied directly from Dean's email regarding the MAT. My comment is that the society should be more proactive in soliciting preorders from the Commissary rather than waiting for the manufacturer to formally announce its release. If the dealers can set a discount price in advance, I am sure the MAT can figure it out as well. And more pre-orders should lower the society cost as well.
From Dean
-----------
We have an item on order with Rapido (which we will announce when it is released for sale) that opened the door to inquire with us about the N&W ALCO RS-11. Pre-selling the RS-11 will highlight the number of N&W modelers within our society in addition to the modelers outside of our society. This will hopefully lead to another run with different paint schemes. Ordering the items from the Society supports the Society and its continuing operation and allows us to order more from the manufacturer and shows them that our members support N&W/VGN products.

The NWHS (AFAIK) has to commit to Rapido for a significant number of units to get a good price so that the society can make money. Buying the models may cost you additional money, but it raises money for OUR organization. If NWHS purchases these units for resale and the members go elsewhere, and they sit unsold, these projects may be seen as not worth the investment by the Board.
