Modeling Back number boards

I have always mounted the white number on the back of the clear styrene and
put the black decal behind them. Shell scale black background in no longer
transparent for lighting.
What do most do for the black background so they are transparent for
lighting.

look for bugboards, if there is already clear plastic on the numberboards
you can mount right on that, light with a minilight or LED.
