While I have had to remove several turnout to install switch machines, I found it not that hard at times. I started using Fast Tracks turnout controls as it is manual and does provide for power routing. You make these your self as they are cut from wood, very easy to make and install. They work on the same principle as the Blue Point machines but at half the price. I install thes by cutting a hole under the turnout block with a Rotozip. One bit width is enough to clear the piano wire. This leaves the hole completely under the the block and switch points without the big hole they tell you to drill for the tortoise.

Here is the link to the machines:

The low cost BullFrog manual turnout control from Fast Tracks offers everything you expect from a turnout control and more! Visit our website to learn more.
