Sorry Ed, I guess I figured someone else would answer your questions, as I have used the caboose industries products, but not the particular stand in question. I used the stands for a time, but then replaced them with a hidden slide switch, and a dummy stand. The reason being the difference between these and the actual prototype stands are considerably different in size, and a slide switch provides more reliability for powering the frog.

Thanks, Ed. As one who has been actively modeling since 1946, I like to pass on whatever I have learned to new modelers. MR doesn't do that much anymore, and the new Craftsman is not much like the old one in that respect.

Gents. A while back I solicited the wise advice of experts for help/tips in assembling the Caboose 103R switch stands. I guess no one uses them which is a shame because they are extremely well made and look great. Or maybe nobody had any problems with the sort of small parts like I did as I never heard from anyone. So I sent an email to the owner and he personally called me back the next day. We had a great conversation and Steve Olsen/Caboose Industries has now become my favorite vendor with superior quality products and unmatched customer service. He also has a very nice web site and I have become a loyal customer. Quality products and superb customer service can't be beat.
Sometimes it's not all about "resin based boxcars" which seem to be of great interest to most. Sometimes it's the boring stuff like ballast and switch stands where new modelers ask for help. Newbies like me get scared when all they can see in MR is articles on "Replacing a DCC coder" and something called ILS? One reason why I dropped my MR subscription. Way over my head as a new guy and a lot of us rely on people who have actively modeled for many years.
Food for thought?
