Barry: The BLI Y6b is a fairly accurate model. I have three and am pleased with their accuracy and performance. One mistake made by BLI is the painting of the smokebox. The smokebox should be black since the model had a lagged smokebox. Also the window sashes should be painted orange not red.
On another subject, my Davenport family is from Whigston in Leicestershire. Actually from the Kilby Parish just outside Whigston. My sixth great grandfather was born in Kilby on 6 Sept. 1640. He came to North America in about 1658. In the UK my family is know as "The Great Whigston Davenports" and in the USA we are "The Albemarle Davenports". I guess it is a small world after all. D. These will run on my planned outdoor garden line, where track should start being laid this year.

How accurate are these locos?

I don't plan to modify them for detail: I am considering the S-Cab system and batteries to avoid track power.

Thanks for your help. England, especially here, is Mild.

When I was lucky enough to talk BLI into doing the "A" as their first
locomotive besides sending them the drawings I also went to every list I could
find and asked them to email BLI that they were interested! Now it worked well
enough that they have not only done the "A" but the "Y" and the "J" also. I
would love to see the "K's" in both versions. streamlined and not! This way
they get 2 Locos out of one drive train! As long as BLI or for that matter any
other company can see a profit they will produce product! Sure they may not be
perfect but at the price point that BLI sells their locos there is room for the
super detailers out there to make a number of different variations! I find it
amazing how often Diesel Locos are cut in many sections and converted into some
of the most obscure variants!
The pages of model railroad mags are full of conversion articles for
diesels not so many for steam. Maybe this will change now with the availability
of plastic models that can be more easily purchased!

I agree with that viewpoint. I am perfectly happy with my Rivarossi Y6b's though I know they are not perfect but improved over the years. As many of you remember, this was the only non-brass HO scale N&W steam locomotive produced for years. We ought to be happy that these manufacturers are willing to produce models of our favorite locomotives.
