What we have accomplished today is raise an issue about reviewing model products. Eric Bott took the time to read the various responses and then to write up a very good approach for the NWHS to develop a guideline for reviewing products. I have asked two individuals to collaborate on such a guideline. I have put the item on the BoD agenda. And one member has submitted a product review, following Eric’s guidelines, to the modeling editor.



We can write emails back and forth about what was said, what was not said, what we thought was said or not said, or we can sit back, look at what we as members collectively accomplished because of this discussion and say all in all it wasn’t a bad day.

You pose an interesting question about reviewing anything. First the NWHS does not have a cadre of reviewers for anything, whether it be books, models, pictures, DVDs or other items. Every time we want something reviewed, we have to find someone willing to do it. If an individual thinks a product is bad at first glance, then it is not going to be an unbiased review. Any member who wants to write a product review can submit it to the modeling editor (meditor at nwhs.org) for inclusion in “The Arrow.” Because of the variance in opinions based on the “threshold of tolerance,” it is difficult to say what is in the best interest of members, but I can categorically state that nothing will happen unless someone volunteers to do it.

Did Rivarossi/Hornby actually ask for "blessings"?

"One of the major points is that each of us must find his or her own threshold of tolerance; that threshold will vary as an individual decides what is "good enough" that he is satisfied, or at least not offended, by what he sees in his basement."

Is it in the members best interests to refuse reviewing N&W/VGN models? Would it not be better to give an unbiased review to 1.) inform the membership what is available, 2.) Point out the pluses/minuses, and then, let the member decide if the model is right for them?
