I checked through my slides taken in the Roanoke vicinity in 1973-1975 and
got a ratio of 6 blue hamburgers to 1 red NW. I don't have any evidence of
red hamburgers. I have to admit that my collection is too small as I was a
"poor" high school student at the time. Oh I wish that I could go back and
tell myself to use more film and record everything.

I assume the blue cabooses started appearing about the same time as the blue
locomotives in 1966, but when did they disappear? We they repainted red
with the NW logo as needed or was there a deliberate plan to get rid of the
blue? Were there any hamburger herald red units still around? What would
the mix of caboose paint schemes have been in 1974?
