Do you want the scheme with NW on the ends and NORFOLK AND WESTERN on the
sides? If so, 1700 is on page 120 of Withers and Bowers Norfolk and Western
Second Generation Diesels.

Subject: SD-45 Question

Hello Stephen,

The original horn on all phases of N&W SD-45s is the Leslie RS5T. Some of
the engines may have received variations in shopping, but the big Leslie 5
was the original. The horn was mounted along the centerline on the roof on
top of the high short hood just to the short hood side of the seam with cab
and the short hood. If you're modeling in HO scale the horn is Details West
part# AH-191 (hard to find right now). If you're using Cannon & Co. high
hood kits there is a drill dimple on the underside of the hood roof for
proper location of the horn.

One other phase divider: SD-45's 1765 thru 1814 all had high mount triple
brake cylinder clasp style brakes (6 brake cylinders per truck) as
delivered. I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Chris Dalton
