Southern Express Company

[NW Modeling List]

I found the picture of N&W #117 (B-60 clone), lettered for 'Southern  
Express Company', on page 92 of the book 'Railway Express' by V.S.  
Roseman. The undated picture looks to be an illustration rather then  
a photograph, through it may have been based on a photo. It is not  
suitable to create artwork for a decal. There are quite a few  
pictures like this in the book, which makes me wonder if this was an  
artistic choice to render photographic material in this stylized form.

The caption says that "Southern Express Company... also served the  
Southern Railway, Atlantic Coast Line, and Mobile & Ohio Railroad.  
Southern Express later became Southeastern Express and in 1938 was  
merged into REA"

I am told that the picture comes from a book on "REA" authored by Vic  
Roseman.  Don't have the name of the book as Mr Roseman has written a  
few.  Maybe someone else on the list can add.

I don't think those decals have ever been produced in any scale.  But
that might change this year.

I don't think I've seen a color photo, have you?

I haven't seen a photo of 117.  Where did you find that one?

Hello,

I have a friend who is building and O Scale model of N&W Express car
117. It appears to be a 60 foot heavyweight baggage. He is looking for a
decal "Southern Express Company" that goes on the side in between the
doors. Does anyone know of a resource for getting a decal for the
"Southern Express Company" O scale would be preferred but if available
in HO, I'm sure we could photoshop it any reprint. (This is a private
one off not a commercial modeler)
Any insight is appreciated.
