There was a recent discussion on this list regarding air brushing and weathering.

For those who may be intersted, the April 2011 issue of Model Railroader contains several articles on weathering; multiple methods are discussed. Of particular interest to the N&W modeler is an article by Gary Hoover who shares his techniques for weathering a steam locomotive; the locomotive is a N&W Class A.
