It's a?good book (107 pages).? Covers all the "operational " periods of the Railroad and has a few later cars roosters.? It has a lot of pictures from 1940's to the "end", of Southern, A&D and NFD motive power and?rolling stock.? Also has photo's of stations, etc.? I have found all of Mr. Griffin's books to?be pretty good.?I think the N&WHS sells the revised version.

Harry and Charlie,

Thanks for the information on the A&D.? Now I've?got another "project".

Charlie, what do you think about "The Atlantic and Danville Railway Company" by William Griffin?? I've been thinking about getting a copy.

Thanks,

Chuck.

Chuck,

Went back and looked at some copies of ICC Valuation Reports I have for that time period.? They showed the following for the A&D;

?

Used by the Southern, Owned by the Lessor Companies:

Atlantic & Danville

??? 20 Locomotives

??? 443 Freight Cars

??? 17 Passenger Cars

??? 66 Work Cars

?

But they did not indicate in the breakdown of equipment the types of freight cars!

Chuck,

?

I have a copy of "The Atlantic and Danville Railway Company" by William Griffin.? During the time period you are interested in, the A&D was under lease to the Southern (1899-1949).? ?I took a look at my copies of "The Official Railway Equipment Registers" for 1919 and 1926 and they refer you to the Southern for the A&D.? A review of those listings only show narrow gauge equipment, for the Claremont Branch of the A&D, as far as equipment lettered for the A&D goes.? They do however, show equipment lettered for the Danville and Western also under lease to the Southern at that time.

Gentlemen,

I am in the processing of modeling Durham NC, 1915 - 1925.? Is the A&D appropriate for that time period? I would like to increase the?variety of?rolling stock that would be seen?on the Durham Beltline and I am unfamiliar with the Atlantic & Danville's history.

Thanks,

Chuck Stewart
