Robb,
I find that interesting as well. But, I haven't worked anywhere east of Bluefield as my territory is the Pocahontas Division, which is the old Pokey, Scioto, and PD districts. Basically, I work anywhere on the old N&W/VGN west of Bluefield.

Robb, I got this from your all's website. Is this the signal you're talking about?

This appears to be a control point in one direction only. If so, then the dispatcher can line movements from this signal in one direction only, and that being east. It appears to be a holdout signal. It depends on the opposing signal, which looks to have a B arm that can give the vertical aspect without a marker light. That marker would define it as a controlled signal. Without one, its an automatic, and should have a number board.

And yes, you can have a control point in one direction only. The only thing is, the dispatcher would have to line opposing movements from the next control point east of there for westbounds. Why? Well, it depends on a lot of things. I'm not familiar with that situation, but I'll see if I can scrounge up a timetable somewhere and see what's going on there.

Do you have a photo of the opposing signal, or the ones at Ada you were referring too? If so, we'll try to get this figured out.

Robb,
That is interesting. I'll ask someone at work why that is.
