Hi Lois;

I hope you realize that the pre-Spectrum Bachmann model has a very poor representation of the J's boiler.  The model's boiler is actually pretty close to the streamlined K2/K2a.  Compare it with a Spectrum or BLI J, which have the correct boilers.  At that point, you may decide that it is not worth the effort.

A few years back, there was an article in Mainline Modeler on making a good boiler for the Bachmann Plus J, about the same time as the Spectrum J was announced.

  Before asking for help on how to convert my Bachmann 611's tender to prototypical appearance, I have a few questions about the 611. Was she actually removed from the N&W roster and was her number ever reassigned to another locomotive?
  I might note my Bachmann N&W 611 is of the earlier J production (once Bachmann Plus) and not the present Spectrum so that should give you something to work with in the way of thinking about how I should approach working with my tender.
