Mark:

The Society tries to run what will sell in useful quantities, that is,
finding a near match to an N&W or VGN prototype and getting a sufficient
number painted and lettered in a 'unique' scheme that has not been run
before by a commercial company. The key here is to order the quantity that
a manufacturer is willing to work with. They will not make a run of 20 kits
for instance. They need to run sufficient cars to pay for the fixed cost of
designing the painting stencils.

There is NO way for the Society to have special tooling made to make the
plastic injection molding tooling for a kit. This cost can range from
$50,000 to $100,000 or more. One has to make a lot of kits (and SELL them!)
to amortize the tooling cost across the price of the kit. So the Society
must depend on using existing kits/tooling that are close representation of
the actual prototype.

The Society is always interested in the suggestions from the membership.
Commissary at nwhs.org should be working.

I have to admit I've been baffled by some of the
choices for N&WHS N scale runs.

Can anyone tell me who in the society decides what is
run?

N scale is a barren wasteland when it comes to N scale
N&W hoppers (unless you want them in pre-1952
schemes).

Respectfully,

(I tried to email the commissary about this
commissary at nwhs.org - but my email bounced back)
