  Ed:
Thanks, I always did love a challenge. LOL BTW I picked up your book "N & W In The Appalachians" on eBay, its a good reference.
I do know someone who kit-bashed one of the Spectrum USRA's to a VERY good likeness of the Z2, to the point where it went on eBay for over $300. That was too rich for my blood and yes its probable that I will not be able to create a really nuts and bolts representation of the Z1, but there isn't really a viable option out there that I have seen, is there?

There are those who might say you're starting from BEYOND scratch, Bob

No problem. I have a handful of photos of Z1's from a variety of sources, and the best I can really see... smokebox front needs changing, the number boards and headlight on the front need to be changed, the front cylinders are different - either larger if a Z2 or slidevalve top if a Z1.... I will take a lot of pictures as I go and I am sure I will seek help as I go as well. I have done some minor bashing but nothing this major. Yet.

Thanks Bob. Sounds like a great future Arrow article also.

It has been done, I saw one. I am actually going to try it myself. I think
the most difficult part is the front cylinders as they would have to be
modified, whether you were making a Z1 or a Z2. I will let you know how
things progress as I tackle this!
