In my article on detailing the Y6b, I also showed how to repower them. You can replace the motor with one of the same size using silicone to mount it. It is not that hard to do, finding a motor that size is going to be the problem.

I want to revamp one of my poor runners, a Y6b with the cab-mounted can motor. Its very balky, I got the unit from someone and it was obviously not well-cared for. Even with alligator clips on the motor contacts, it runs in fits and starts and not steady at all on the bench. I was wondering how huge an undertaking it would be to replace that motor with something else. I have another motor that runs better from a junked Riva loco but the holes in the motor case don't match where they need to be to swap out motors.
Any recommendations?
