Modeling those impressive pusher operations

You did not specify a scale, but in HO, would one of those electromagnetic 
Kadee uncouplers work?  You would need something where you can press a 
button, activating the magnet only at the moment the couplers are over it. 
It would require some practice and timing to only uncouple the ones you 
want.
