Hi;

The pictures on LL website indicate the original USRA tender with two axle trucks. BTW, Walthers' sites says that they are already sold out of several versions of this latest run.

  By the way, from what I understand (and I could be wrong) the new P2K Y is going to have the ex-ACL tender with the four axle trucks... feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  Hi All;

  First of all, the Bachmann USRA Heavy 4-8-2 is appropriate for a K2, and take a bit of modification to become a K1, though it is certainly a very reasonable project.

  You can get Bachmann Spectrum A-tanks from Trainworld for less than $20 each plus s&h (so purchase several at once), which a good price just for a pair of trucks of that detail level with electrical pickups.

  I have purchased a P2K Y3 tender off of e-bay. The forth coming release by Life Like is for a USRA 2-8-8-2 (no Worthington BL, pumps on the smokebox, etc), so the tender should be different too.

  There was a series in Model Railroading several years ago on creating a E3 from a Spectrum PRR K4, one of the articles was on creating a tender from the then current Bachmann A tank, the new Spectrum A tank should work even better for that conversion.

  For the PM tenders, the Rivarossi Berkshire tender is close, and the whole locomotive can be had for $50 from Trainworld, they may even have some of those with two tenders.......

    Greetings folks,
    I recently purchased Bachman's 4-8-2. Now, after breaking it in and putting a "correct" headlight on it, I'm ready to go for a correct Tender. Just one problem.... Where do I start? I've tried Life-Like to just get the frame and body from the old Y3 release... no good (go figure, it was worth a try though!). I also have a picture of a K with an ex Pierre Marquette tender. It just so happens that I have and old Rivarrossi Berkshire tender that would only need a little work to look right. If I go that route, anyone know what tender trucks would be correct? Anyone have any other ideas?

    BTW, don't try ordering Bachman's auxiliary water tender trucks... they're out of stock for a "few months". Who else makes these trucks? My old brass K3 could use a new set also!!!
