At this point in time, Mr. Bundy may be the only one who can answer this
question.

Did the VGN employ Selective Ringing on its Train Dispatching telephone
circuits?

"Selective Ringing" is a circa 1915 invention of Western Electric Co.,
which enabled the Train Dispatcher to ring the bell in only one Train Order
Office, without ringing the bells in all the other offices on the line.
Selective Ringing was replaced by DTMF (Dual Tone, Multiple Frequency)
technology in the 1970s. DTMF technology is also what made Touch Tone
Dialing work on ordinary telephone lines.

It would really be nice if, some day, photographs show up, taken in the
Norfolk or Princeton Train Dispatchers' Offices.
