Through consultation of an old tracm chart, it has been determined that "The Morri Branch" is the VGN's line running north off the Guyandotte Fast Line at Simon Jct (perhaps formerly called Sloane Jct,) up to the big Kopperston Mine, a distance of about 19 miles. The coordinates:

Simon Jct 37.6049, -81.7291
Toler Spur
McLyn
Plunkett (a relatively new yard)
Huff Creek Jct
Oceana
Hatcher
Kopperston 37.7627, -81.5537

Thus endeth one mystery, and here springeth forth an ever greater mystery: WHY is this line called the "MORRI Branch" ? WHAT is the origin of the name "Morri" ?

There is no station or community known as Morri in the entire state of West Virginia. I have checked the gazeteer of historical names, and Morri does not appear. The U.S. Geological Survey has topographic maps of this area dating back to 1893, and none of them show a place called Morri. Nor does the US Coast & Geodetic Survey acknowledge the name Morri.

Ergo, cur nomen Morri ?
