I welcome the FRESH inclusion the NS. Bob Bowers years ago, submitted articles in the Arrow of NW locomotives dispositions under the NS. I looked forward to those in the Arrow.
I have been a member from the very beginning having hosted a convention to being a society secretary, selling locomotive models to support the society. I love the N&W but
am tired of the rehash of steam. I have sold all of my steam models as nothing new ever is produced to widen the N&W roster. It is stagnant era of modeling to me. Very little is ever
mentioned if any at all, of the 60's and up era of the N&W. The average era modeled according to the Model Railroader is the 70's, Yet our society is stuck in in the 40'/50's. Yet you wonder
why we don't get younger new members. I myself have very seriously considered dropping the society because there are no or very, very small % discussions of Modern NW diesels, passenger service in the 60's
and up (not even the NW commuter service that NW had in the Chicago area) and the western NW operations. There are those who have such a disdain for the blue era and the modern era of the NW
and are vocal about it that they discourage any members and potential new members. It is this attitude that keeps our society small in numbers. The Arrow seems to lack enough modeling projects that 60+%
of the members enjoy and encourage to be included. I look forward to articles of what the NS is doing in the N&W territory on what changes has or are changing along the lines.
What bothers me is that those who jump to conclusions threatening to end their membership because of the NS inclusion. No one said that steam discussions and modeling will be put on the back burner.
What is said is that the NS inclusion will just be an added page to the new and younger members in order the sustain and grow our society. If those who do not see the need for this, then I wonder
if they really care if our society has a future.

I suspect this will be the end of my rather long membership in the N&WHS. I have very little interest in contemporary railroading. I do not intend this to sound threatening, I'm just letting the membership know my mind. My interest in history and railroading are what drove me to join in the first place. -Ed Burnett, Lynchburg, Virginia

The society will embrace Norfolk Southern going forward! To that end we are soliciting articles for the Arrow on NS topics. Preferential priority will be given to submitted items that have some relation to the original Norfolk & Western. For example, they take place along the Pokey or some other original trackage, they involve ex-N&W equipment or structures, etc. Please submit your news/articles to the editor of the Arrow for publication.
Additionally, for all you Norfolk Southern modelers out there, we are soliciting modeling articles and news on NS topics. If you are building or have built a model of a Norfolk Southern item, please consider sending in an article describing your process/results. Also, if you have news about sources/availability of NS/NW items of interest to our modelers, please submit that for publication as well.
We have taken on a bit of a new direction to move our society into the future and we need your support to keep us strong and make us great again. Please help by submitting your materials for our magazine.
