Line side poles

A while back there was a discussion on the track side telegraph poles about the cross arms.
I had a chance to check some poles out on the Cincinnati district today.
The ones I could get to and check, each poles cross arms were on the opposite side of the next pole.
One pole cross arms east side of pole, next west side of pole and so on.
Then I got to looking at the electric poles with cross arms along the roads and they also for the most part alternate the side the cross arms were on. All the years watching, chasing and exploring the Peavine, I never noticed this before.
Now it is a part of my looking when I am out on the Peavine. Or any line for that matter.
