The Internet Archive has dozens of scanned issues of Railroad Magazine and Railroad Man’s Magazine available at:

https://archive.org/search?query=railroad+magazine

The scanned magazines can be read page by page on the Internet Archive’s viewer, or downloaded. The search for “railroad magazine” also returned some scanned mid-60s issues of Railroad Model Craftsman, bound volumes of the B & O Employees Magazine, and other titles indexed with “railroad.”

Marty, great idea scanning this article. I stumbled across a September, 1944 issue of Railroad Magazine in an antique store in Wapakoneta, Ohio, several years ago. It had two N&W centric articles - one called “Geared for Tonnage” that gave a nice description of the full railroad, with “ride along” descriptions (in a dated folksy writing style that seemed to be common before the war) describing train operations through several areas. It was really interesting.

I may follow your lead and pull it apart and scan it.

Here's an interesting first-person accounting of working on the Pokey in its very early days, from Railroad Magazine's March 1945 issue. (Its early years are an underappreciated treasure trove of first-person "Tails of the Rails".)
