I am sure Ken will jump in on your question he’s a letter junkie . But far as color is concerned you about got it . Used silver on passenger locomotives
for a while. Look for great article in the “Arrow” by Charles Schlotthober

Subject: varnish lettering
All,
How far back does Tuscan red with gold lettering go into N&W history? Was there ever a time when N&W passenger cars were lettered with anything other than gold leaf or gold-colored paint, perhaps white for example? Also, does anyone have any information on passenger car painting and lettering for the N&W predecessors i.e. N&W RR, AM&O etc.? I realize this is stretching Mr. Peabody's wayback machine a bit, but I also know we have a bunch of extremely dedicated information archeologists in our group that seem to be able to do the impossible when ferreting out N&W nuggets from the masses of recorded history.
Thanks,
Jim Cochran
