Hey Mike. Alex Schust’s “N&W in West Virginia” has a good amount of information on the Twelve Pole. He covers the reasonings the line's initial location, how it was used once the Big Sandy line was built (then double tracked) and its eventual abandonment in 1933. The general synopsis from memory is that it was located where it was to take advantage of potential mining potential on the route to the Ohio River, but ultimately the amount of business on the line didn’t outweigh the operational difficulties and expense once the Big Sandy line was double tracked.
Attached is an N&W Magazine article from November, 1933 that covers the abandonment. The first page of the article also contains a before and after map - so two birds, one stone!

What industries did it serve? How long was it active? How busy was it? Is there any information about it in any of the N&W (or other) books?
