Jim - yes, I've been a member in good standing of that group for a while
now. It's a very good group! But I dislike the fact that it's not OUR group
under the N&WHS "brand." We somehow missed out on seizing that opportunity
early in terms of social media. Now that group has grown and has a
considerable "market share" of people who we'd love to convert to
dues-paying members of our organization!
On a separate note, and this is really getting off-track, I was part of the
group effort by N&WHS to create and launch the facebook group "Norfolk and
Western on Today's NS." However, it never really got up to speed with
anyone. I'd be interested in maybe converting that facebook group a general
history group for the sake of posting material from some of our noted
historians who are on Facebook already. While it probably seems redundant
with the existing N&W/VGN group, this might be a perfect place for people
to tell their family stories about growing up with the railroad.
To his credit, Ken Miller runs our N&WHS facebook "page," which is a great
place to post promotional items and stories of interest that help drive
sales and memberships. But it's not the same as running a group (which
takes a LOT of work to keep running smoothly).
