Instead of the Shenandoah Valley Railroad continuing south from Waynesboro to Roanoke along its present alignment, it might have turned toward Staunton and followed the as-yet-unconstructed-in-1879 B&O route between Staunton and Salem.  Shhhhhhhh... keep it quier.  The attached two-sheet letter is confidential.  ;)
