Subject: Altoona Coal Mine near Pulaski

Col. von Span, Lord High Sheriff of Pulaski County, runs a discussion list devoted to the Bristol Line. To his list I recently posted a question, asking if anyone could give coordinates for the old Altoona Coal Mine near Pulaski. This little mine was opened ca. 1877 and furnished engine coal for the Virginia & Tennessee Railroad for a few years. One source says the mine continued producing its Anthracite mixture until about 1900.

Never a man to let grass grow under his feed, the Colonel quickly produced the following linque, which leads to a modern article pinpointing the location of the mine with laser precision by the use of LIDAR imaging. And I pass on his find to the Faithful on the N&W List.

I have enthusiastically joined the Colonel's Patreon by faxing in One Shiny Quarter. By his verve, he has answered my question of many-decades standing. You Done Good, Colonel. I suggest everyone fax a Shiny Quarter to the Colonel's Patreon, so that his gallant efforts may be further habilitated.
