Question regarding Steam Era Concrete Structure at Dorney

I received some new drawings from the archives yesterday that I think may answer my question from three years ago (the original question is at the bottom of this email). My guess from that time was that the structure my was related to the center coal supply track, possibly a long drop pit to convey coal to the dock. After reviewing the drawings, I now think that the relation to the supply track is correct, but what he saw were actually retention walls used to support the loaded car incline (screenshots attached).
These walls were above ground, which is the opposite of the pit he described. But perhaps the surrounding ballast was raised enough over time to make it appear that way.

For a couple of years in that stretch he was an engineer on the Circleville Job, switching out the various industries in and immediately south of that city. Dorney’s former center siding was the staging location for inbound and outbound cars.

He estimated it being several hundred feet long, about man-deep and gage-wide, and very similar to an inspection pit. Images show that the coal supply track was between the mains, so my guess was it had something to do with dropping and conveying coal to the coal dock. However, his description makes it much longer than I would have expected a pit for this purpose to be.
