Passenger Rail Coming to New River Valley

Can someone enlighten me on why the state wants to buy the old VGN line from Roanoke to Merrimac?Jimmy:Q: Remember what Virginians paid to bring Amtrak to Roanoke ? A: Enlarging tunnels on the Altavista District.
Q:  Why ?A:  Additional trains would cause congestion on the Blue Ridge District even     though the tracks are configured like they were in the 1960s when N&W     had 6 eastbound and 6 westbound passenger trains scheduled.
So today's NS saves about 25 miles on every car of multi-level traffic movingRoanoke to Danville and beyond.
