How did the railroad work Jenkin Jones

Tom,

Your question revives a question that I have long had on a different
coal field location, namely, "Was there a switchback on the track to the
power plant high above the N&W main line at Switchback, WV?  According
to the web site coalcampusa.com that power plant was activated in 1907,
so the N&W undoubtedly hauled the construction material and power plant
equipment to the plant.  Google Earth has a faint indication of a track
that hints that the power plant may have been served by a long siding
that rose steadily from a junction on the N&W main line west of the
power plan instead of a zig zag, or switchback track.  If so, what is
the origin of the name "Switchback?"  Anybody know?

Lastly where was the tipple in relation to the company store? I’ve see pictures with a track on the left (up hill) side of the building.
