Bill,

The train should not be subject to the stop light. There should be some sort of shunt that trips the light(s) in all directions to red. Same as if it were a "No right/left turn" when lit situation where a road is parallel but separated from the rr tracks, and any perpedicular tracks would have a standard red light.

Is the train subject to the traffic lights — shown as red in the photo?  If not, what does cross traffic do?  Especially that on a cross street to which the train is approaching while cross traffic has green light?

How about the irony of the "No Trucks" sign on the right side of the attached image whereas South Shore Line trains regularly operate in the middle of the same street as seen in this view of Michigan City, IN?
