NW-Certified Car Scales

It was still there in the early 60's when I was a working on South 
Yard.  No idea of the N&W abbreviation for that location.

In addition there was a certified scale at the yard office at the east 
end of Roanoke Shops.   When  I worked at that location it was the 
clerks job to weigh  any outbound loaded cars.  Only a few cars of scrap 
during my time.  The Yard Master was K. O. Barnett in the early 60's.  A 
fine old southern gentleman.   KO would always weigh cars for me.  It 
was a very old type scale not like the one at shaffers where cars were 
weighed in motion.  That one would automatically stamp the gross weight 
on the card and you would have to write the tare weight as it sailed 
past the window.
