According to Warden/Miller's book passenger trains 35/36 were converted to mixed trains 71/72 "in late 1953 or early 1954".
And then "by 1958 all passenger service on the Durham Line had been discontinued".

I remember seeing black NW GP 18s on the wye in Durham in the late 70s. I believe the passenger service must have stopped in the early 1960s.
