Ken, I grew up in Roanoke. That was a very long and narrow bridge. Was there a sidewalk on it to ride your bike? If anyone gave you trouble there's really no where to go. Did you feel safe?

I know as I explored RR things on my bike, 'situational awareness' was always necessary.

Just curious, John Garner

As a kid growing up in Roanoke . I would ride my bike from Wasena over to the Tenth Street bridge which overlooked the N&W yard . All I remember is that the caboose tops at that time, anyway, were black or a dark color of some kind, not red. Hope that helps some.

Take care,
Ken Tanner

In time, of course, the brown tended to weather to a more blackish or dark gray appearance. But in the later red schemes, the roof was red like the body.
